COOLSCULPTING by ZELTIQ is the first and only clinically proven, non-invasive procedure to selectively and reliably reduce fat in problem areas using a patented cooling technology.
o CoolScultping is a safe, effective procedure that permanently eliminates fat from trouble spots that are diet and/or exercise resistant.
o On average, each CoolSculpting Procedure results in a 20% reduction of fat in the treated area and patients can start to results as soon as six weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results after two months.
o Common areas that have been successfully treated worldwide using CoolSculpting include: the muffin top, back fat, love handles and post-pregnancy pooch.
|
o The CoolSculpting Procedure was developed at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard) in the United States
o It is a medical fact that fat is uniquely susceptible to extreme cold. ZELTIQ? technology harnesses the power of cold to trigger fat reduction in the body.
o CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ is not a laser-assisted or ultrasound fat reduction technology.

Q: WHAT IS COOLSCULPTING? HOW DOES IT WORK?
A: CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is a breakthrough, FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that gently and effectively reduces fat in problem areas of the body. This results in noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction in the treated areas for men and women. What makes CoolSculpting different than other fat reduction procedures is its patented cooling technology that targets and eliminates fat cells.
During the procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to target and eliminate fat cells in specific areas of your body. When fat cells are exposed to cooling, it triggers a process of natural removal, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer. The result is a reduction in fat bulges that is visible in most patients in two months.
 |
Q: WHAT IS CRYOLIPOLYSIS?
A: Exclusive to ZELTIQ, Cryolipolysis is the non-invasive cooling of fat cells
to break them down without damage to other tissues. The result over two to four months is a noticeable,
natural-looking reduction in fat . Cryolipolysis? is based on the principle that fat cells are more
vulnerable to cooling than surrounding tissues. A non-invasive applicator is attached to the targeted
area to extract energy from the underlying fat tissue, while protecting the skin, nerves, muscles and
other tissue. The cooled fat cells undergo apoptosis (controlled cell death) and are gradually eliminated,
reducing the thickness of the fat layer.

Q: HOW LONG HAS THE COOLSCULPTING BY ZELTIQ PROCEDURE BEEN AVAILABLE? HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TREATED TO DATE?
A: CoolSculpting has been commercialized since October 2009 in Canada, Europe and regions in Asia with clinical trials beginning in May 2006. There have already been 7,500 cycles (2.5 cycles per procedure) which equates to approximately several thousand patients.
Q: IS THE COOLSCULTPING PROCEDURE SAFE? PAINFUL? SIDE AFFECTS?
A: The CoolSculpting Procedure is safe and generally comfortable for most patients. Typically patients are comfortable enough to read, work on their laptop computers, listen to music, or just relax during the procedure. After the procedure some patients experience redness, tingling, minor bruising or numbness in the treated areas, but this is temporary. No pain medication is required.
Q: WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR COOLSCULPTING? IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE?
A: CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution and it is not a substitute for invasive methods such as liposuction. The ideal Cool Sculpting candidate maintains a healthy weight yet struggles with bulges in common areas that do not lend themselves to easy removal through exercise or diet. They are seeking spot reduction for specific areas of fat, but are not considering a surgical procedure. Commercially, doctors will decide on a case-by-case basis whether a patient is "age-appropriate" for the CoolSculpting Procedure.
Q: WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT IN TERMS OF FAT REDUCTION - WHAT IS THE AVERAGE OUTCOME?
A: In all CoolSculpting cases, patients will experience an average 20% reduction in fat in the area treated. However, visible results are can vary based on the patients' initial fat deposits in the area treated.
Q: IN ESSENCE, THE COOLSCULPTING PROCEDURE "FREEZES" FAT, RIGHT? AT WHAT TEMPERATURES DO THE FAT CELLS DIE?
A: No. Actually, the CoolSculpting Procedure does not "freeze fat." The system delivers precisely controlled cooling to target areas and eliminates fat cells in those specific areas of your body. When fat cells are exposed to cooling, it triggers a process of natural removal, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer.
Q: IF COOLSCULPTING IS SIMPLY JUST FREEZING FAT AWAY, WHY COULDN'T I JUST APPLY AN ICE PACK AND GET THE SAME RESULT?
A: Because an ice pack would not be able to reach cold enough temperatures in order to effectively kill fat cells. And, the application of the cooling technology is done through a controlled process which could not be duplicated with an ice pack.
Q: HOW LONG IS EACH COOLSCULPTING TREATMENT?
A: Procedure time can be up to two hours or more depending on the size of the area to be treated. During the consultation, the doctor will discuss how long the procedure will take and how much time should be allotted for your office visit.
Q: HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE DESIRED RESULTS?
A: Every patient/case is different which is why ZELTIQ recommends a follow-up visit be scheduled with the doctor two following the procedure to assess the cosmetic improvement and consider additional CoolSculpting Procedures to achieve greater fat reduction.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAT CELLS ONCE THEY DIE? HOW DOES THE BODY PROCESS THEM?
A: The dead fat cells are naturally processed by the liver which is an organ in the body designed to perform this very function.
Q: IS COOLSCULPTING SOMETHING PEOPLE CAN DO ON THEIR LUNCHBREAK?
A: Yes, one of the many benefits of the CoolSculpting Procedure is its convenience. Because it's non-invasive, the procedure can usually be completed within one to two hours which means no downtime for patients. In fact, during treatment, patients can be positioned comfortably enough to read or work on a laptop.
Q: WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS ONCE YOU'VE HAD THE PROCEDURE DONE?
A: There is no recovery (down) time after the CoolSculpting Procedure. Patients may resume normal activities on the same day as their procedure, including work and exercise.
Q: WHEN YOU KILL THE FAT IN ONE AREA, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAT IN OTHER AREAS? DO THEY MOVE OVER TO COMPENSATE? IF THERE ARE FAT DEPOSITS THROUGHOUT THE BODY AND YOU ONLY TARGET THAT ONE AREA, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE REST OF IT?
A: Once the fat cells are killed from the CoolSculpting Procedure, they are gone and results are permanent. Fat will never deposit again in the same area that was treated. So there is no risk of fat from other areas moving over to the treated area to compensate.
Q: WHAT PROOF/CLINICAL EVIDENCE IS AVAILABLE THAT ZELTIQ WORKS?
A: Clinical studies involving hundreds of patients (in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia) show that the CoolSculpting Procedure is an effective way to reduce fat without the pain, risk, and recovery time of surgical procedures. The result is noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction of up to 20% in the treated areas. Specific results can be found in the case gallery on our Website at: www.coolsculpting.net.
Q: ONCE THE TREATMENT IS COMPLETE, ARE THE COOLSCULPTING RESULTS PERMANENT? HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
A: The CoolSculpting Procedure results are lasting and cumulative. Once the fat cells are killed in a specific area they will not come back there. The elimination of fat cells as a result of the Zeltiq Procedure is expected to last about as long as fat cells removed by invasive procedures such as liposuction.
Q: IS THERE ANYTHING COOLSCULPTING BY ZELTIQ CAN NOT DO? (i.e. what kind of cases is it not appropriate for?)
A: Yes, CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution, it is not for people who are obese and it is not a substitute for invasive methods such as liposuction. The areas that have been successfully treated worldwide using CoolSculpting include: the muffin top, back fat, love handles and post-pregnancy pooch.
Q: HOW MUCH TIME (AT A MINIMUM) IS NEEDED BETWEEN EACH ZELTIQ APPOINTMENT?
A: This is a decision that should be discussed between the patient and physician as it relates to reaching specific goals and ensuring the best possible outcomes. However, ZELTIQ typically four to eight weeks between treatments.
Q: WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC AREAS OF THE BODY THAT ARE IDEAL TO TREAT WITH THE COOLSCULPTING PROCEDURE?
A: Some of the most common "problem areas" that have been successfully treated with CoolSculpting worldwide include: the abdomen or "muffin top" area, saddle bags, back fat areas for women and love handles for men.
Q: CAN THE COOLSCULPTING MACHINE/PROCEDURE WORK ON ANY OTHER THINGS SUCH AS CELLULITE?
A: ZELTIQ does not recommend the CoolSculpting Procedure to treat cellulite.

The Fraxel re:store Dual system provides a non-invasive treatment allowing patients to regain a more youthful look to the skin. Fraxel re:store treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out. The Fraxel re:store Dual system allows for deep and superficial resurfacing of larger and multiple body areas in a single session.
The new non-ablative Fraxel re:store Dual system takes the industry leading Fraxel? technology to the highest level of effectiveness by adding a new laser wavelength that is optimized to treat pigment and other surface skin imperfections. The new wavelength is more comfortable, and now for the first time Fraxel can be used on larger treatment areas and multiple body areas in a single treatment.
|
The Fraxel re:store Dual laser is a non-ablative treatment which targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body's remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes rapid healing. Fraxel re:store Dual treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cooling is built directly into the new handpiece for improved patient comfort. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn that usually subsides in 1 to 3 hours.
The magnitude of visible improvement varies from subtle to dramatic. Patients can experience:
- Smoother, fresher, younger looking skin
- Improved tone and texture
- Erasing of unwanted brown spots
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
- Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars
The treatment takes just 20 to 25 minutes for a full face with additional time for anesthetic application.
After the procedure, you will have some degree of redness, swelling or a sunburn sensation, which are signs that your body's natural healing process is building new skin from the inside out.
Fraxel has an excellent safety record. Of course, as with any procedure there's always some risks. Your physician can discuss this with you during your consultation.
The Fraxel laser has been approved by the FDA to treat multiple skin conditions, including age/sun spots, acne scarring, melasma (the mask of pregnancy) and periorbital wrinkles (crow's feet). The Fraxel re:store new laser wavelength is pending FDA 510(k) clearance.

The Sciton Skin Tightening And Rejuvenation (STAR) treatment is an innovative combination of the BBL Broadband light with the SkinTyte Infrared technology to effectively address the full spectrum of skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyle and skin damage.
The SkinTyte Infrared technology addresses skin laxity by deeply heating dermal collagen promoting partial denaturation and contraction of collagen. This initiates the body's natural healing process creating a renewed collagen foundation leading to firmer, tighter skin and a more youthful appearance.
 |
On the other hand, by selecting the appropriate wavelength or filter, the BBL broadband light energy allows your physician to precisely target and eliminate unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions and many of the fine vessels that cause redness. The photothermal energy will also gently heat up the upper layers of your skin thereby stimulating your skin cells to generate new collagen, giving your rejuvenated skin a smoother and more vibrant glow. |
The SkinTyte light energy is delivered in a sequence of rapid, gentle pulses while cooling and protecting the entire treated surface. Powerful cooling maintains the outer surface of your skin at a cool temperature before, during and after each pulse providing you a comfortable and safe procedure. A series of pulses will be repeated over the treatment area to ensure best results.
The BBL broadband light is also non-invasive and safe with minimal discomfort. You may briefly feel a rubber band snap or warm sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas.
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields and the STAR procedure may take up to half an hour or so depending on the size of the area to be treated.
A series of 3 to 5 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart is typical of most patients. Your physician will personalize a STAR treatment plan based on the level of improvement you desire.
This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no downtime. In most cases, you will be able to return to work, apply light makeup, and resume most of your activities right away.
You may experience some mild redness in the treated area immediately after which should resolve within the hour. For skin tightening, full results often take up to 4 months as the collagen foundation of the skin is rebuilt and strengthened. You will experience improvement in skin laxity and reduction in surface irregularity.
For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will also feel smoother with fine wrinkles and pores being less noticeable.
STAR treatments are safe for all skin types and can be performed on any area of the body where an improvement in your skin's firmness, clarity and texture is desired. Popular areas include the face, neck, abdomen and hands. You should consult with your physician regarding the treatment options that are best for you.
It is important to follow your physician's instructions. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. Your skin will be sensitive to ultra-violet light, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until full recovery. Protect your skin with a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.
